Welcome to my photography site, where you will find the best of the photographs I've taken over the past few years. Since the birth my my twins, Alexander and Eleanor, two years ago, I haven't had as much time to get out with the camera so most of the photographs I've been taking have been of them. These are all on my family site at www.poli.co.uk/family.

About Me

Logon Picture 8 (large)
I've been an amateur photographer since the late 90s but only really got enthusiastic about it when I bought my first Digital SLR in 2000. Moving to digital has meant being able to take ridiculous amounts of photos without worrying about the cost and see instant feedback.

My favourite subjects are
architecture as the subject doesn't move which gives me lots of time to compose. I also like wildlife photography but living in London, this tends to be in zoos or parks, although I had an excellent day photographing big cats at Santago Rare Leopard Reserve.

My Equipment

My current camera is the Canon 40D which is an excellent camera. I upgraded from a 10D and the difference is remarkable. One of the things I love about shooting with SLRs is the ability to shoot multiple sequential shots - I find this especially good when photographing people as they can often be tense in the first shot but relax after they hear the first shutter and in the second or third shots, they appear more natural. The 40D is really good at taking fast sequential shots. My primary lens is a Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L IS and I have a Speedlight 430EX flash.

I shoot in RAW format and then 'develop' these using Capture One software. This produces TIFFs which I edit and sharpen in Photoshop and I use iPhoto as my photo catalogue. One of the reasons for using iPhoto is the great integration with
Rapidweaver, which is the software I use to produce all my web sites - it's superb.
